Leading up to this assessment, you have analyzed significant ideas in the text Farewell to Manzanar and determined the extent to which the film stays faithful to or departs from the text and its effectiveness in conveying those significant ideas. You have drafted a possible claim about the effectiveness of the film in conveying a significant idea and planned your independent argument essay to support your claim.

Additionally, you have studied a model essay that evaluated how effectively the film conveyed the significant idea that Jeanne’s youth impacts her understanding of events in the text. You have planned and drafted a collaborative practice essay in which you evaluated how effectively the film conveyed the idea that Papa feels deeply conflicted loyalties, both to Japan and to America.

Choose a significant idea from the text Farewell to Manzanar. How effectively does the film Farewell to Manzanar convey this significant idea? Use your planner to draft a full argument essay. You will have 65 minutes to respond to this prompt.
