This quick exercise will help diminish non constructive conversation (students that do not pay attention and disrupt the learning environment). While students are very disengaged, in your normal direct instruction voice, announce the following: "I am going to give you a chance to get an easy A. The answers are as follows: 1: a, 2: b, 3: c, 4: d, 5: a. Don't worry about the questions, just put the answers I gave you and you will get a 100."

Then show students the results and prove your point on how many really pay attention to you during direct instruction.
