Where's My Pet?
When Ben arrived home from school, he was eager to go inside and see Oliver. You see, he had been at his dad's house for the past few days, and Oliver lived at Ben's mom's house. Oliver was both Ben's best friend, and his pet. Ben hopped off the school bus, waved goodbye to his friend Jeff, and hustled down the street to his mom's house.
When Ben shoved open the front door, he was surprised and more than a little disappointed that Oliver didn't meet him at the front door like he usually did in the afternoon. Ben called for Oliver a few times, while racing through the house. He checked under the kitchen table and under the coffee table, a few of Oliver's favorite hiding spots. Still, Ben wasn't having any luck finding the elusive Oliver.
Ben suddenly thought of an idea to kill two birds with one stone and headed straight to the kitchen and grabbed a bag of pretzels. Not only was Ben famished for a snack, he knew that Oliver would likely hear him rustling around in the kitchen and come to investigate. Ben sat at the round kitchen table with his pretzels and a glass of milk, anxiously watching for Oliver's round nose to come around the corner. But still nothing.
Just as Ben was finishing up his salty snack, he heard his mom pull into the garage. Ben jogged out to help her bring in a few bags of groceries and asked her, "Do you happen to know where Oliver is? I can't find him.“
"You can't find Oliver? Well his little curly tail couldn't have gone too far. He was up this morning before I went to work, devouring his food this morning. I even gave him a few scraps from my breakfast since he looked like he was missing you," Ben's mom assured him.
"I'll have to look a little bit harder, I guess," said Ben quietly. But he had to admit he was getting worried. He didn't know where his best buddy could be. He missed petting Oliver's coarse hair. Where was his little pink buddy?
Ben realized that he hadn't even put away his duffle bag when he got off the bus. He grabbed it and headed off to his room. As Ben was his dirty clothes into his hamper, he heard a familiar grunting sound coming from his bed.
"Oliver, you little rascal, there you are!" exclaimed Ben, and he scooped up Oliver for a huge wet kiss. As if on cue, Oliver oinked with joy - his best friend was back.
