The difference between phagocytosis and pinocytosis is that phagocytosis takes in liquids and pinocytosis takes in large solid particles.

A cell may transport a substance in a vesicle if the substance is too large to cross the membrane.

During endocytosis, the vesicle membrane fuses with a lysosome, and the membrane and it contents are broken down by lysosomal enzymes.
