A Hare was making fun of the Tortoise one day for being so slow.

"Do you ever get anywhere?" he asked with a mocking laugh.

"Yes," replied the Tortoise, "and I get there sooner than you think. I'll run you a race and prove it."

The Hare was amused at the idea of running a race with the Tortoise, but for the fun of it, he agreed. So the Fox, who had agreed to be ajudge, marked the distance and the race began.

The Hare was soon far out of sight, and to make the Tortoise see how ridiculous it was for him to try a race with a Hare, he lay down beside the course to take a nap until the Tortoise could catch up.

The Tortoise, meanwhile, kept going slowly but steadily, and passed the place where the Hare was sleeping. But the Hare slept on very peacefully; and when at last he did wake up, the Tortoise was near the goal. The Hare now ran his swiftest, but he could not beat the Tortoise in time.

Slow and steady wins the race.

In this story, the Hare acted arrogantly. Define arrogance. Then, using complete sentences, tell your own story about a time when someone thought you couldn't do something. Were you able to prove them wrong?

Some Boys were playing one day at the edge of a pond in which lived a family of Frogs. The Boys amused themselves by throwing stones into the pond so as to make them skip on top of the water.

The stones were flying thick and fast and the Boys were enjoying themselves very much; but the poor Frogs in the pond were trembling with fear.

At last one of the Frogs, the oldest and bravest, put his head out of the water, and said, "Oh, please, dear children, stop your cruel play! Though it may be fun for you, it means death to us!"

Always stop to think whether your fun is the cause of someone's pain.

Think about the last line of this story. In complete sentences, give three example of situations that are fun for one person, but painful or annoying for another.
