In some ways, quarter-midget race cards are similar to large race cars. Like full-size cars, quarter-midgets feature safety equipment such as seat belts, shoulder harnesses, and a protective roll cage. Their engines, however, are very different. Unlike the large engines used in full-size race cars, quarter-midgets use small engines such as those found in a lawn mower. Naturally, that results in lower speeds. Larger race cars can over 100 miles per hour. Quarter-midgets, on the other hand, usually travel between 30 and 50 mph.
