Welcome to our first class of the analysis of Chapter 1-9 of the book called 'HOLES'.

In this session, you need to

1. Pick a team of five people.

2. Decide who will play each role in the 'Group roles' sheet.

3. Follow the agenda below to complete the tasks and post your responses to this Formative.

TASK A: Extension questions (25 min)

TASK B: Find out the speakers (30 min)

TASK C: Meet with the teacher (10 min)

TASK D: Irony and Figurative speech sheets, Lullaby poster and an outline of the person (10 min)

TASK E: Writing the body paragraph of a literary analysis essay (5 min)

Each group will rotate through the task in the following order:

GROUP 5: E B C A D

TASK B: Find out the speakers. (30 min)

The names of the characters are somehow deleted. It is your task to find the names. 3 students are going to work on Scene 1 and 2 students are going to find out the names for Scene 2. The texts will be handed out by the teacher. When you are done, you are going to act it out with all the classmates:)

TASK E: Write the body paragraph explaining how Sachar uses language to create a hostile environment in Chapter 1. (5 min)

POINT: In Chapter 1, Sachar creates a hostile environment using language.
