Learn

You have learned about the present, past, and future verb tenses. Each of these tenses has a progressive form. The progressive form shows that an action is going on.

In this lesson, we are going to look at progressive forms of verbs: present progressive, past progressive, and future progressive.

Present Progressive Form

Present Progressive form shows ongoing action that is still happening when the words are written. To form the present progressive, use the helping verb am, is, or are with the -ing form of the main verb.

Some examples from our grammar book, page 92:

I am studying about different periods of art. (happening now)

Our teacher is explaining how an art movement begins. (happening now)

Beth and Tom are looking at a painting from the Impression art period. (happening now)
