A Weak Government
Under the Articles of Confederation, the government had on the branch-the legislative branch, which is the part of government that makes the laws. Each state had one vote for or against a law. For a law to be passed, at least nine states had to vote for it.
The Articles created a weak central government. There was no executive branch or judicial branch. The executive branch carries out the laws passed by the legislative branch. The judicial branch, made up of courts and judges, decides what laws mean. Under the Articles, the states controlled most of the laws. For example, Congress could not make laws about trade. Each state-controlled trade with other states and with foreign governments.
