"Generally speaking MEDC's (More economically developed countries) are your more wealthy, prosperous countries while LEDC's (Less Economically developed countries) are those with less wealth".

"There are 196 countries in the world. 25 of them are very rich, defined as having an average wealth per person of over $100,000 ( R1.7 million) a year. Far more countries are quite poor, and some are very very poor. In the 20 poorest countries in the world the per capital wealth is under a $1,000 (R17 000.00) a year, or under three dollars (R50 ) a day.

Why some countries are poorer than others?


LEDC's are most corrupt and MEDC's are least corrupt. MEDC's have good institutions and LEDC'S have poor institutions. LEDC's cannot collect enough taxes. Most of the money goes into offshore accounts. LEDC's cannot invest enough in the police, education, health and transport. Clan based thinking, best person for the job is not picked. LEDC's are found in mostly tropical areas. Tropical plants are less nutricious and the soil is poor. Tropical diseases such as the Tsetse fly kills domestic animals which help with farming. Poor countries are badly connected. The resource curse, also known as the paradox of plenty affects LEDC's.
