According to the picture below, what is the length of this pen in cm? (write a number only)

1

According to the picture below, what is the length of this pen in mm? (write a number only)

1

34 mm = _____ cm (Show how you would move the decimal to get to the answer in addition to showing the answer itself. Draw arrows or curves on the image as we did in class.)

Answer this question if you are in the classroom and are able to measure mass using a scale. What is the mass of an ink pen?

1

Answer this question if you are in the classroom and are able to measure mass using a scale. What is the mass of a can of soda?

1

16 mg = ______ g

1

12.345 g = _______ kg

1

4.7 kg = _____ g

2

2 g = _____ mg (Show how you would move the decimal to get to the answer in addition to showing the answer itself. Draw arrows or curves on the image as we did in class.)

Part 3: Use the following questions to practice your knowledge on the units and conversions for temperature.
1

What is the basic unit for temperature?

What's the best description of room temperature in degree Celcius?

2

Convert 90 F to degree Celcius. Show your work.

1

45 F = ______ C (Type a number only. Save two decimals.)

Part 4: Use the following questions to practice your knowledge on the units and conversions for volume.
1

What is the basic unit for volume?

1

What is the best unit for measuring water in a bathtub?

1

Use L x W x H to find the volume of the box below _____________ m3. (Write a number only)

2

For items that are irregular in shape, it's difficult to use math to find out its volume. In this case, you can use water displacement to measure the volume of the item.

Step 1: Add a certain amount of water to a graduated cylinder that's big enough to fit the item you would like to measure. Record the initial volume of water by reading the bottom of the meniscus in the graduated cylinder.
Step 2: Carefully drop the item you're measuring down the graduated cylinder.
Step 3: Record the final volume of water by reading the bottom of the meniscus in the graduated cylinder.

Calculate the volume of the rock by showing your work and your answer on the image below.

Try this at your lab bench if you are in class.

Part 5: Use the following questions to practice your knowledge on the units and conversions for time.
1

What is the basic unit for measuring time?

1

How many seconds are in 1 minute? (write a number only)

1

How many seconds are in 6 hours? (Show your answer and how you got to the answer.)

1

How many seconds are in 2 days? (Show your answer and how you got to the answer.)

Part 6: Use the following questions to practice your knowledge on the units and conversions for density. (The density of water is 1g/mL)
1

An object that has the density of 0.85 g/mL will _______ in water.

1

An object that has the density of 1.4 g/mL will _______ in water.

1

An object that has the density of 1.0 g/mL will _______ in water.

1

An object that has the density of 0.92 g/mL will _______ in water.
