BE SURE TO READ EVERYTHING AT LEAST TWICE TO MAKE SURE YOU ARE DOING WHAT IS ASKED.
We are writing a paragraph, but it is chopped up into different questions/sentences so you see which part(s) you excel at, and which part(s) you need to work on.

This is a simple CER or Claim, Evidence, Reasoning.
You should have more than one sentence for questions two and three, but you can't repeat information, so make sure you are focused on what each of the three questions asks of you! Question four is really just you copying 1-3 to make it look more like a paragraph--re read and edit everything!

This is worth 30 points and counts four times in IC so be thoughtful. This may take me more than one week to read and score so be patient. :)

Remember to avoid "I"statements and try to avoid "you" in all your sentences today and edit/review before submitting it!

1. Make a Claim (topic sentence/ TS) as to why the author placed a poem in chapter five of the book.
One sentence only where you restate the prompt and answer it--then move to question #2.

2. Find evidence to prove your claim is correct. You can quote the poem, or just talk about/refer to the poem, but you need some evidence about-- or from-- the poem and the novel to prove your claim is correct.

This should be two or more sentences as you discuss the poem and the novel/story. This is all the facts, or evidence, or proof that your claim is right. (Concrete detail/CD or facts/evidence/proof).

Ususally begins with: For example, in chapter...or in the poem...all facts/CDS --and then move to your thoughts/opinion/elaboration on your CDs for #3. * It is okay to mix fact and opinion in the same sentence if you happen to make that happen in your writing--but this should be focused on evidence from the two sources (poem and novel).

Two sentences is the minimum.

3. This is the part that matters the most in writing: commentary or elaboration.
Explain what this poem represents, or why it matters, and/or add a deeper explanation why it shows up here in the novel. This is deeper than the first sentence or topic sentence and you can no longer use any facts from the story. You already shared your facts and now you explain why your facts matter or why your facts are important, or what your facts reveal, etc. If you end up needing to state a fact, then that same sentence needs an explanation or elaboration to it as well.

You should have more than two sentences.
Please don't repeat anything you already stated....which is why this part is hard. Be thoughtful.

This part is your opinion based on the evidence you already provided. Commentary (CM) or Elaboration. Usually begins with: This shows that...or This is important because...or This reveals to the reader that...

Remember to avoid "I"statements and try to avoid "you" in all your sentences today and edit/review before submitting it! You should not have any remarks about what happens after this chapter.

Now copy your sentences from sections 1, 2, and 3 (in that order) and see if you have a paragaph that is 5-8 sentences long.

Also check to be sure you are not repeating yourself (edit it and edit the 1, 2, 3 area as well).

Make sure that when you get to #3 that the focus is on opinons about what you shared in #2 and not more story facts. The focus on the second half of the paragraph is elaboration/commentary the thoughts about why your facts matter or what they reveal.

This last question is just you copying 1, 2, 3 and making sure you have a paragaph that works.

EDIT EVERYTHING as spelling and grammar do matter for this assessment. Submit when done.
