Question 3

Choose the best claim to the question: Does a paper airplane with a wing span width of 12 cm travel a greater distance than a paper airplane with a wing span width of 8 cm?
Based on the experiment, a paper airplane with a wing span width of 12 cm does not fly a greater distance than a paper airplane with a wing span width of 8 cm.
Based on the experiment, a paper airplane with a wing span width of 12 cm does fly a greater distance than a paper airplane with a wing span width of 8 cm.
Based on the experiment, paper airplanes fly the same distance, no matter what their wing span width is.
Choose the three pieces of evidence that supports the claim in #4.
In trial 2, the 12 cm airplane flew 1.95 m while the 8 cm airplane flew 1.40 m.
The mean (average) of the 12 cm paper airplane (2.67 m) is bigger than the mean of the 8 cm paper airplane (1.41 m).
In trial 5, the 12 cm airplane flew 2.12 m while the 8 cm airplane flew 1.37 m.
The mean (average) of the 8 cm paper airplane is 1.41 m.
Choose the reasoning for the claim based on the evidence from #5.
In trial 5, the 12 cm airplane flew 2.12 m while the 8 cm airplane flew 1.37 m. In trial 2, the 12 cm airplane flew 1.95 m while the 8 cm airplane flew 1.40 m.
A larger wing span width means that there is more air resistance against the paper airplane, which will increase flight distance. As we can see especially in trials #2 and 5, the 12 cm paper airplane flew a longer distance than the 8 cm paper airplane. In addition, the mean of the 12 cm airplane is much bigger than the mean of the 8 cm airplane. Therefore, the airplane with a 12 cm wing span width will fly much more than an airplane with a smaller wing span.
The paper airplane with the 12 cm wing span width flies more than the paper airplane with the 8 cm wing span width.
What are the important parts of a claim?
A) It is your opinion.
B) It is the answer to your question.
C) It is something that needs to be proven.
D) It is a yes or no.
E) Both B and C
Select all that apply to evidence. There are 4 answers.
Evidence is your opinion.
To have enough evidence to support your claim means it is sufficient.
Evidence is scientific data used to support your claim.
Evidence can be ONLY quantitative.
Evidence can be both qualitative or quantitative.
If a piece of evidence supports the claim, this means it is appropriate to use.
Reasoning is-
A) where you explain how your evidence supports your claim.
B) includes scientific principles.
C) provides evidence that supports the claim.
D) A and B
