Heating Beakers Performance Task
Background:
Beakers A, B, and C contain water at 90 °C. There is half as much water in Beaker B as Beaker A and half as much water in Beaker C as Beaker B.
Directions: Using the simulation, conduct an investigation to predict the temperature of water in Beaker C after transferring 4 units of thermal energy from the beaker to its surroundings. In the simulation, you can transfer 1 unit of thermal energy from Beaker A or Beaker B to its surroundings each time you click the “Transfer thermal energy from beaker to surroundings” button. Observe what happens to the temperature and the particles in Beaker A and Beaker B when you transfer the thermal energy from beaker to surroundings.
