We hear the term "responsible travel" a lot, but what does it mean? Responsible travel involves reducing environmental damage, teaching visitors about environmental issues and supporting local culture. Responsible travel also provides work for local people and raises money for conservation. Consider these popular destinations next time you travel.

Walking around in a rainforest frightens the animals and birds. They haven't got anywhere else to go and they can't make nests or look after their young.
Going to a nice warm country and staying in a hotel with a swimming pool and airconditioning is very comfortable.
I want to eat the food I am used to eating. Please import it for me. Maybe you have to build another road for all the trucks to bring the food. It doesn't matter about the pollution.
I want to buy some real souvenirs, made by the local people. Or, I want local people to show me how to make my own souveniers
I want to buy some nice cheap souvenirs made in China.
It's better to eat local food. This will give jobs to local cooks, farmers and fisher people.
People want to enjoy the rainforest, so we can build some walkways above the forest floor. Tourists can see things without spoiling the forest floor as much
I need to charge my camera, my phone and my computer. I also need to use a hairdryer and lots of hot water. Please dig up the forest to make electricity poles.
We can find sources of power that don't need to affect the environment so much.
Maybe we can think about where we stay on holiday and try not to affect the environment too much. Local cultures usually know how to deal with the weather.
