A constitution is the framework of a government written on paper.  The United States has a constitution.  Indiana also have a constitution.  It is based on Indiana's history, needs, and geography.  However, it cannot conflict with the U.S. Constitution or national laws.

TUESDAY

Indiana has the largest sand dunes this side of the Sahara Desert!  The dunes were formed by deposits left behind by glaciers.  Indiana's sand dunes are found along Lake Michigan.  Mount Tom is the biggest of the dunes.  It is 192 feet tall.  If you listen carefully you can hear a humming noise made by the drifting sand!

Immigrants came to Indiana from other states and many other countries.  Most of Indiana's early immigrants came from England, Scotland, and Wales.  Today, Indiana is made up of people of many different races, cultures, and ethnic backgrounds.  Only a certain number of immigrants are allowed to move to American each year.

Benjamin Harrison was our nation's 23 president.  Harrison served as president for four years, beginning in 1889.  While he was president, Harrison admitted Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Idaho, and Washington to the Union!  Harrison represented Indiana in the U.S. Senate before he was elected president.
