The U.S. government passed a law in 1830 that said all Native American groups had to move to reservations west of the Mississippi River. In 1838, more than 800 of Indiana's Potawatomi Indians were rounded up by federal troops and led on a 900-mile march to a reservation in Kansas. About 150 Potawatomis died on journey now known as the Trail of Death.
The trail began at Twin Lakes in Indiana and went to the reservation in Osawatomie, Kansas.

William Henry Harrison was our nation's ninth president. He was inaugurated (sworn into office) in 1840 and became the first president to die in office- after only 30 days! Harrison was governor of Indiana while it was still a territory, from 1800-1812. He was famous for defeating the Indians at the Battle of Tippecanoe in 1811.
