Assessment Preparation: Lesson 11

1. Tell students that in the next lesson, they will participate in a Science Talk with a small group to discuss the Unit 2 guiding question: “What patterns can we observe in the sky?”
Students reread and review their What Makes Day and Night, Patterns of the Moon, and Patterns of the Stars notes sheets independently to select one pattern they would like to speak about during the Science Talk in Lesson 12.
Circulate and support students, prompting them with further questioning if necessary:

“For which pattern do you have the most information?”

“For which pattern do your notes feel the most clear and helpful?”

Invite students to use a pencil to mark a star on the top of the note sheets for the pattern they would like to discuss.
Guide students through the Back-to-Back and Face-to-Face protocol to practice sharing information about their chosen pattern using the following questions:

“What pattern in the sky are you sharing about?”

“What are one or two pieces of information you learned about this pattern in the sky?”

1

“What is one thing you still wonder about for this pattern in the sky?”
