Wk 11 State Dailies

Indiana's state flower is the peony. These flowers bloom in beautiful colors of red, pink, and white. Ants help the flowers open by separating the petals to get at the flowers' nectar! Peonies bloom in late May and early June.

Indiana's southern hills and lowlands region is found in the southern part of the state. It is where most of the state's forests are found. The region has hills and valleys that include bedrock and limestone.

In 1816, Indiana became the first state to say that free public schools should be available for all children. Unfortunately, the state did not have the money to build these schools until the 1850s. Until then, parents had to chip in and pay for their community schools!

Late night talk show host David Letterman was born in Indianapolis in 1944, and he graduated from Ball State University in Muncie. David hosts television's "The Late Show." He is famous for his kooky sense of humor.
