Objective: SWBAT to determine the success of egg drop models using engineering criteria and design analysis.

Do Now:

0

If you could recreate your egg drop pod, what changes would you make?

Guided Notes:

0

Write the mass of the pods in order from smallest to largest in the space below. Then identify the relationship between size and success of the pod.
  1. Successful - S
  2. Not successful- NS

0

Many of us dropped from different heights. How is the drop of each height related to PE and KE of the egg drop pod?

0

Create a bar graph of all the pods created. Below plott/shade how many pods used each material.

Practice:

0

Create a bar graph of only the successful pods.. Below plott/shade how many pods used each material.

0

What factors do you think lead to certains pods being more successful than the other pods? Explain.

CFS:
  • accurately describes the relationship between the identified variables and impact forces
  • Accurately identifies the strongest sources of evidence from the experimental data

Exit Ticket:

Match each of several designs with a list of the prioritized criteria and constraints or trade-offs in building materials for schools in an area where earthquakes occur.
There are two schools in a town where earthquakes sometimes happen. The town leaders want to make school buildings stronger and safer to protect students and teachers during an earthquake. The leader asks three different construction companies to propose a plan for making the schools safer. Each plan should match three different criteria and constraints.
  • The school will be made safe within two years.
  • The cost cannot be more than $0.47 per square meter of building space.
  • Both schools will be able to withstand an earthquake of magnitude 8.0.
The table shows important details for three plans submitted by the construction companies.

Analyze the critera below

1

Select the plan that BEST matches the criteria and constraints made by the town leaders.

0

How could you determine the most effective and efficient school plan?
CFS:
  • Student describes the impact and relationship of the chosen design decisions
  • Accurately identifies the strongest sources of evidence from the experimental data
