Purpose: to write net ionic equations from molecular equations

Procedure

1a) Using a well plate, mix together 3 drops of AgNO3(aq) and 3 drops of NaCl(aq)

• forms a white precipitate

2a) Using a well plate, place a piece of Mg ribbon in a well and add 3 drops of 6 M HCl (aq).

• releases a gas; and gets hot

3a) Using a well plate, mix together 3 drops of Pb(NO3)2(aq) and 3 drops of KI(aq).

• makes a yellow precipitate

4c) Repeat this experiment except this time with 0.10 M HCl(aq) add 1 drop of phenolphthalein to the 0.10 M HCl(aq) and then add 3 drops of Ca(OH)2(aq).

• adding Ca(OH)2 to HCl with phenolpthalein turns pink. Phenolphthalein is indicator that helps see the chemical reaction

5a) Using a well plate, mix together 3 drops of distilled water and 1 drop of phenolphthalein to water and then add a small amount of calcium metal

• turns pink
