If you had trouble getting that one, watch the video below.

Sometimes, points can be too far apart to figure out the slope by drawing it on the graph. In those cases, we can use subtraction to figure out how many we go up or down, and how many we go over.

Find the slope of the graph below. You may use the work box if it is helpful.

What is the difference in the y-values? (remember, points are written (x,y) and "difference" means subtracting)

Take your answers from the previous three questions and find the slope of this line.

We can use that subtraction to find the slope of a line when we don't have a graph at all. The formula (which we just used without knowing) is:

The little 1's and 2's don't have a numerical value, but they name the points for us so we can put the correct x's and y's in the formula.

We want to find the slope of a line that contains the points (12,30) and (-48,10). Which of the expressions below has the correct values substituted in the correct places?

8.

Find the slope of the line that contains the points (20,31) and (72,135). Remember to reduce your answer, and if you were taking a test, all your work would need to be shown.

Find the slope of the line that contains the points (-20,75) and (-8,39). Remember to reduce your answer, and if you were taking a test, all your work would need to be shown.
