The Indiana state rock is limestone.  It is found in central and southern parts of the state.  Indiana limestone is used to construct buildings throughout the state and the nation.  The Empire State building and Rockefeller Center in New York City are examples of famous buildings made from Indiana limestone.

Indiana has many animals that are in danger of dying out.  They are called "endangered" or "threatened," and are protected by federal law.  In Indiana, these animals include the badger, bobcat, river otter, gray wolf and red wolf, and several types of bats.

The famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway was built in 1909 using 3,200,00 paving bricks!  The first Indianapolis 500 auto race was held in 1911.  The Indy 500 has been held every Memorial Day weekend since then!  (until 2020)  In the middle of the Indy 500 track is a golf course and a museum!

Albert Jeremiah Beveridge was a lawyer, historia, and U.S. senator from Indiana.  As a senator, he helped to write a federal meat inspection law.  The law said that all meat had to be handled in clean conditions and had to be inspected befpre it was sold.  After his career in politics ended, Beveridge began to write biographies of famous Americans, including Abraham Lincoln!
