The team used to practice twice a week. When they found out they were going to the state championship, they changed to four practices a week. They learned new plays that the Tigers had never seen.

“I told you we should have practiced more,” Jeremy heard one of the Tigers say to a teammate as they walked on the court to start the second half.

“We beat them by 20 points last time we played,” another Tiger teammate whined. “Everyone knows we are the best in the state, but they’ve changed everything up. I have never seen a team pass the ball and get open shots like the Hornets. What happened?”

Seeing that the game was so close, Jeremy smiled. “It looks like all the time we practiced is paying off,” he told Kurt, “If we keep playing like this, we’ll pull ahead for sure!”

“It’s time for our last shot of the game. We’ve practiced it over and over. Jeremy, you know what to do?” Jeremy nodded, excited. “Then let’s go!”

Kurt threw the ball in the air. Everyone in the gym held their breath.
