KEY TAKE HOME POINT: ALL ATOMS WANT FULL VALENCE SHELLS (OUTERMOST ENERGY LEVEL/SHELL) IN ORDER TO BE STABLE.  ATOMS ARE REACTIVE AND FORM COMPOUNDS IF THEY DON’T HAVE FULL VALENCE SHELLS. THEY DO THIS BY FORMING STABLE IONS WHEN THEY BOND. ALL NOBLE GASES IN GROUP 18 HAVE FULL VALENCE SHELLS AND ARE STABLE AND UNREACTIVE.  (1ST SHELL- 2 ELECTRONS 2ND-7TH SHELLS- 8 ELECTRONS)
