Assessment Directions:

The assessment is administered in Unit 1, Week 3, Lessons 3 and 5.

Part I:

  • Display pages 5–9, reading and showing each illustration.
  • Display the Unit 1 Assessment, Part I: Answering Question about a Literary Text.
  • Read aloud question 1 and the answer choices.
  • Invite students to click the correct answer.
  • Repeat the process with question 2.
  • Question 3: Have students type one or two sentences describing what happened at the beginning of The Dog That Dug For Dinosaurs. **If typing several sentences is too difficult for your students, you may try having them respond with paper/pencil, orally on Flipgrid, or another platform that works for you.

Part II:
  • Display The Dog That Dug for Dinosaurs and read the title aloud. Then display pages 5–15, quickly showing each illustration.
  • Display the Unit 1 Assessment, Part II: Answering Questions about a Literary Text.
  • Read aloud the directions for the selected response questions. Tell students that you will read each question aloud, and they should click what they think is the correct answer.
  • Remind them of the strategies and steps they have learned to answer these kinds of questions.
  • Read each question aloud, and give students time to answer before moving on to the next question.
