***MODEL ESSAY***

School has always been a challenge for me, especially the part of having to take a test every week. I would get very anxious, my hands would sweat, and I would forget everything I learned. It didn't help that my teachers didn't realize I was so nervous. So, naturally, I am not a fan of having to take weekly tests in school. Instead, I believe students' knowledge should be tested with projects and essay.

In addition to making me anxious, tests are not always the best way to measure a student's understanding. For example, with a multiple choice test, students who don't know the right answer may just guess but still get the answer correct. Fill in the blank tests are also tricky because they work primarily on memorization and not everyone has a good memory. In place of standardized testing, students should be able to express their knowledge through creative projects and essay response questions.

Creative projects allow students to pair their imagination with the skills they've learned. Children are able to make presentations, poster boards, and 3-D models, while allows them to practice thier engineering skills, too. Plus, creative projects are visual, and most students are visual learners. Another great way to replace tests would be through short response essays.

Presenting students with a question and aksing them to write a short response is a good way to gauge a student's learning because it allows the individual to explain what it is he or she has learned thus far. So, while testing a student is important in order to fully comprehend how a student is developing academically, how that student is tested can be altered and improved greatly, I believe.

To sum up, I am not a fant of testin--or rather, standardized, written by someone who doesn't know me testing. However, I am a fan of creating, explaining, and showcasing what I have learned. To me, this is the most effective way to measure a student's knowldge. Who knows, maybe one day the rest of the world will catch up to my train of thought.
