Why does Frankie Joe take cold showers?

The boys make him go last so there is never any hot water left for a hot shower. 

He likes to take cold showers because it reminds him of home. 

It's a rule in the house that Huckaby boys must take cold showers. 

The hot water knob in the shower is broken.

He doesn't usually eat breakfast. 

Frankie Joe thinks the brothers will make fun of what he picks. Especially Matt. 

Frankie Joe doesn't really care what they have for breakfast.  It isn't a big deal to him. 

He knows it will make Matt mad because Matt is no longer considered the oldest Huckaby.  He is no longer first.

It doesn't seem to be written by his mom.

She doesn't ask Frankie many questions about how he is doing and she signs it "Marti" rather than "mom." 

It is being sent from Web county Texas Jail.  

His mom mentions that she has plans to talk to a new lawyer to get a new hearning.

FJ will is going to write a letter to this "Ricky" friend of Frankie's mom.  

FJ doesn't like the idea of Frankie Joe having contact with his mom when she is in jail. 

FJ most likely wants to see her or talk to her about something.

He ties his underwear in a knott and stuffs them in the toilet. 

He turns the lights out on Frankie Joe while he is the shower. 

He dunks Frankie Joe's toothbrush in the toilet. 

He makes fun of him and calls him a crybaby.

Matt told several people that Frankie Joe's mom was in jail, and Frankie realizes that everyone in this small town will know about it very soon.  

Frankie Joe knows he is going to fail all of his classes no matter how hard he works. 

Frankie Joe knows that Matt will continue to make fun of him every day for the next nine months. 

Since Matt told so many people that his mom is in jail, Frankie Joe knows he can get lots of people to help him run away.

He doesn't know where to look for bed rolls and pots. 

He has no idea what he needs to look bring to help him get back to Laredo. 

He does't have any way of earning money to buy supplies. 

He doesn't know when his mom will get out of jail.
