The distributive property tells us how to solve expressions in the form of a(b + c).  The distributive property is sometimes called the distributive law of multiplication and division.

We use the distributive property when we have variables in the parentheses. We can't combine the unlike terms so we multiply all the terms inside the parentheses by the term outside the parentheses.

a(b+c)=ab+ac
