Mitosis vocab review
Below is a diagram listing most of the important vocabulary words we have learned so far. Many of these words begin with the letter "c" and/or sound very similar to one another. To be successful in this unit it is essential that you can identify these words (in a cell diagram) and define these words.
Match the vocabulary word with its definition AND the image that it best describes. HINT: Each vocabulary word will have one definition and one picture. There are no repeats!
One of two identical "sister" parts of a duplicated chromosome

String-like structures called microtubules that help move and seperate the chromosomes during mitosis
DNA tightly coiled around histone proteins; these are easy to move and only visible during mitosis
The cell part located in the cytoplasm of animal cells that produces spindle fibers during mitosis
The area where the chromatids of a chromosome are attached

Term used to refer to chromosomes that each have a corresponding chromosome from the opposite-sex parent

Describes a cell that contains half of a set of genes because it only has a single set of chromosomes

A photograph of chromosomes grouped in pairs; It can allow us to determine a person's sex and if they have any extra or missing chromosomes
DNA loosely coiled around histone proteins; the structure of genetic material in the nucleus during interphase
Describes a cell that contains a full set of genetic information; the pairs of chromosomes are called homologous chromosomes because their size, shape, and genes are the same
