Write a hypothesis (what you think will happen):

"I think that the bullet/duck will fall fastest because…"

Air resistance (a contact force) is caused by an object having to push air particles out of the way when it moves.

A way to reduce an objects air resistance is to streamline it.

This can be done by reducing the surface area of the front of the object so it has to move less particles out the way when it moves (e.g. the nose of an aeroplane).

An object that is streamlined will experience less air resistance (drag) and therefore be able to move faster.

Read through the text above and answer the questions in full sentences:

1. How can an object be streamlined?

2. What kind of force is air resistance?

3. What causes air resistance?

4. Give an example of a streamlined design.

5. Why will a streamlined object be able to move faster?
