As the novel continues, we've seen many times in which prisoners are treated badly by the Nazis and times in which prisoners are killed for seemingly no reason. However, the Nazis continue to hold roll calls and keep track of the prisoners. Why do you think the soldiers continue to take roll call of the prisoners? What is the purpose of the roll calls?
