"Theme for English B" is a poem. A poem is different from prose, or narrative literature such as short stories, in these ways:

1. A short story has a narrator. A poem has a speaker.

2. In a short story, words are arranged in paragraphs. In a poem, words are arranged in lines.

3. Poetry has a musical quality. The rhythm and the sounds of the words are important. You can hear the sounds when you read the poem out loud.
