Image
The movement of a shape from one position (pre-image) to another (image). Transformations can be translations, reflections, dilations, or rotations.
Reflections
The original size or location of the shape. The points on the Pre-image are labeled using UPPERCASE letters (eg. A, B, C, …)
Transformation
The location or size of the shape after it moved. The points on the Image are labeled using UPPERCASE prime letters (eg. A’, B’, C’, …)
Translations
Translations - These involve sliding a shape from the pre-image to the image. The image and preimage are congruent.
Rotations
These involve flipping an object over a line of reflection or symmetry. The image and preimage are congruent.
Pre-Image
These involve resizing a shape from a pre-image to an image. It could result in an increase in size (enlargement) or a decrease in size (compression).
Dilations
These involve turning the object about a point called the center of rotation.
