Adding vectors together can be easy, but only if you really understand what is going on.  In the following questions, you have two vectors (arrows) that you are supposed to add together.  Remember that their directions are given by the arow head and that if they are pointed in the same direction you can just add their lengths.  If they are not pointed in the same direction, then you have to figure out the lengths using some algebra.

Net force

If the two vectors shown above (the red and the blue) are both 3 m long and both pointed in the same direction, how long would their resultant be?

If two vectors were each 3 m in length and were pointed in opposite directions (180° from each other), what would be the length of their resultant

If a 4 m long vector pointed straight left were added to a 5 m long vector pointed in the same direction, how long would the resultant be?

If a 4 m long vector was pointed left and a 5 m long vector was pointed right, how long would the resultant vector be?
