Sled Dogs


Sled dogs like to run fast. They are trained to race on snow. These dogs love running. They are hard workers.

A good sled dog is really strong. It has thick fur and often wears booties on its feet to protect its paws from ice. Sled dogs must work well with other dogs because they work as a team pulling the sled. Some teams have 20 dogs. The dogs in the fron thave an important job. They lead the team.


Each dog has a driver. This is a person that tells the dogs what to do and where to go/ This person is sometimes called a musher. The musher trains the team of dogs all year.


In the winter, the dog pulls a sled over snow. To practice in the summer, the dogs pull a cart with wheels! They learn to work together and move very fast. They must practice and practice until race day. When the day of the race comes, the team will be ready!
