Objective: KWBAT use models to collect evidence of why and when condensation occurs.

Part 1: Warm Up

Water is an important part of weather. After a rainstorm, rainwater gathers on the pavement, but soon after, it is gone.

Part 2: Discussing Air Parcels

In this lesson we will investigate: why and when does condensation happen in the air to produce rain? Remember that condensation is when water vapor (gas) in the air turns to liquid water.

To investigate this question, we will examine what scientists call an air parcel.

Part 3: Simulating Condensation

Launch the Weather Patterns Simulation and select Lab mode.

Set the “Surrounding Air Temperature”
Test 1: 20ºC
Test 2: 4ºC
Set the “Air Parcel Temperature” to 37ºC for both tests.
Set the “Air Parcel Water Vapor” at 40kg.
Run the simulation and observe what happens in the air parcel.
Analyze the results. Record data in the table below.
