What is wind?
How do you think wind could be related to severe rainstorms?
What are the three factors that cause more severe rain (that we’ve learned so far)?
Wind is formed when air moves from an area of high pressure to low pressure.
Air molecules have weight and can apply pressure on different surfaces. Pressure relates to how much something pushes on something else.
In our atmosphere, the air pressure is caused by the weight of all of the air molecules pushing against the surface of Earth. In some areas the air pressure is high, and in some areas the air pressure is low.
Imagine a pile of books stacked one on top of the other.
The weight or pressure on the bottom book would be much greater than the pressure on the top one.
It’s the same with air molecules; in some areas, air molecules have greater pressure on them than others.

How can an air parcel move upward?
Wind moves toward a certain region because that region is an area of low pressure that is surrounded by an area of higher pressure. In the video, we first saw wind from one fan, which represented just one area of high and low pressure causing the wind.
