Use this information for questions 1-4: In tomatoes, red fruit (R) is dominant over yellow fruit (r). A plant that is homozygous for red fruit is crossed with a plant that has yellow fruit.
1

What would be the genotypes and phenotype for the homozygous red plant?

1

What would be the genotypes and phenotype for the homozygous yellow plant?

1

Perform a Punnett square and then find the probability of each predicted genotype and phenotype appearing in the F1 generation.

1

What is the probability of the parents in cross above resulting in a tomato plant offspring that is homozygous?

Some diseases are passed from parents to offspring through their genes, these are considered genetic diseases. Some of the inherited disorders that fall into this category include Tay-sachs disease, sickle-cell anemia, hemophilia, and cystic fibrosis. A child can suffer from one of these diseases only if both parents pass on a recessive gene for the disease. Cystic Fibrosis results in the body producing abnormally thick, sticky mucus which clogs the lungs leading to recurring infections.

If an individual has the genotype FF will they have cystic fibrosis?

1

If an individual has the genotype Ff will they have cystic fibrosis?

1

If an individual has the genotype ff will they have cystic fibrosis?

Mrs. Odenbach was tested for the cystic fibrosis gene. It was determined that she is homozygous dominant (FF). Mr. Odenbach’s genotype is unknown. If he is homozygous dominant (FF), what is the probability (% chance) that the baby has cystic fibrosis? Do a punnett square to find and prove your answer.

1

If Mr. Odenbach is a heterozygote, what is the probability (% chance) that the baby has cystic fibrosis? Do a punnett square to prove your answer.

1

If Mr. Odenbach is homozygous recessive, what is the probability (% chance) that the baby has cystic fibrosis? Do a punnett square to prove your answer.

1

Is there any possible way this set of parents could have a child with cystic fibrosis?
