They also produce rubber and plastic products, and electrical equipment.  Chemical production, from paint to prescription drugs, is also important to the state.

Richard Gatling founded Gatling Gun Company in Indianapolis in 1862.  Richard's best-known invention was the rapid-fire gun, which was the model for the modern-day machine gun.  Many people criticized Gatling for inventing a terrible weapon.  Gatling offered his invention to the Union Army during the Civil War, but it was not approved until the war had ended.
