Situation: the alderman of your neighborhood just mandated that everyone in your neighborhood MUST return to school.

Role: You need to email your alderman (the boss of your neighborhood) telling him/her your opinion about this new law (argument paragraph).

One way to make your argument stronger is to show research that proves your argument is correct OR find a credible source (doctor, analyst, researcher, expert, someone with experience) who also agrees with you.

How should you end or conclude your paragraph?

Ok, let's work on some imagery that you could use in our argument paragraph. Remember, imagery is describing any one of the five senses (see, smell, taste, touch, and sound).

Consider your argument (are your for all students returning or against it?). Then, create a situation in your mind that helps support your opinion for your reader:

  • If you are against returning, consider negative sounds, sights, smells associated with in-person learning during covid OR consider positive sounds, sights, smells of at home learning.
  • If you are for students returning to school, consider negtative sounds, sights, smells of remote learning and/or positive sights, smells, sounds of school.
Requirements
-Must contain at least two difference senses (smell, sound, sight, touch, taste)
-Must be at least three sentences= Three periods!
-Capitalize proper nouns
-Capitalize the first word of each sentence.

Worth 5 points If stuck, see the example paragraph (you can write better imagery than Justin; I know it!)

Now let's make a simile or metaphor to relate the situation we wrote in the question above to.

Consider the scene you just wrote when using imagery in the question above. What could we relate that scene to in order to create a simile or a metaphor?

In the example paragraph, Justin Thyme compared the situation or scene he created with his imagery to being like a dog. Perhaps you can think of an animal, a group of animals, or a natural disaster, or maybe a different situation in nature like rain or sunny day to compare the situation your wrote with your imagery to. -Includes at least two different rhetorical techniques (imagery, simile, metaphor, reptition, strong and striking statements are great rhetorical techniques and you already wrote two of them!)
-Begins by stating your purpose/ opinion in your topic sentence
