Last month I had the chance to visit the Eden Project on a school trip with my class. The Eden Project is in the South West of England. It`s a fantastic place to visit if you want to understand more about nature. It is one of the only places of its kind and has the largest greenhouses in the world, with many different species of plants from all around the world. The tourist attraction was built in 2001 in a disused quarry (кар'єр). Since opening hundreds of thousands of people have visited it, which has been great for the local economy. What is also good is that the project provides education on the environment for everyone.
The project is really environmentally friendly too. They reuse rain water throughout the project as the main source of water and they use local wind turbines to provide them with energy. I think this is really helpful in protecting the environment.
One of my favourite parts of the Eden project is the Rainforest Biome. Under the huge plastic bubble they have created a tropical climate, with humid temperatures and rain. This is why so many tropical plants are able to grow there.
We attended quite a few workshops at the Eden Project which were real fun, but the one I enjoyed the most was the workshop called “Tracking the Tropics”. We learnt how plants, people and animals all fit together in the rainforest. It was really interesting to discover how plants have adapted to fit in with their surroundings. What I found the most amazing was how the people of rainforests use the plants and trees around them to survive.
