Living creatures on Earth are good at surviving. Creatures make their homes in places where you might not expect anything to live. You can see for yourself. With an adult, go outside. Search for plants or insects living in surprising places. Hint: Look around the bottoms of buildings. Look at the cracks in sidewalks! What do you notice? Make a drawing of what you find.

Pencils are great tools for writing. But you have another tool for writing close at hand! Have you ever written your name in the sand, or on a steamed-up window? You used your finger! Draw or describe all the ways you can write or draw using just your finger. How is writing with your finger better than writing with a pencil? How is writing with a pencil better than writing with your finger?

Design your own paper butterfly! Draw a butterfly and decide what colors it will be. Does your butterfly blend in with purple flowers? Or do the colors warn birds to stay away? Color your butterfly however you’d like! Once you’ve colored your butterfly, add to your drawing. Are there purple flowers in the background? Maybe a bird that is looking for lunch?
