Trouble began when English settlers arrived in the area that is now Indiana. There were many conflicts between the British settlers and the French & Indians. The French and Indian War began in 1754 with the French and Indians fighting against the British. After the British won the war in 1763, France gave England most of its land east of the Mississippi River, including what is now Indiana.

Larry Bird is one of basketball's greatest players. He played at Indiana State University and was named College Player of the Year in 1979. Larry joined the Boston Celtics professional basketball team in 1980 and helped the team win three national championships. Larry was indicted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1998. He was born in 1956 in French Lick.
