Humans will try to keep their personal worldview and prejudices out of their work, but this sometimes fails. When a researcher or scientist influences results in order to portray a particular outcome, it is called research or experimenter bias.

Sometimes bias shows up in the design of the experiment. This happens when a scientist knows that the experiment was conducted in such a way that it eliminated data that might contradict the conclusion he or she was seeking.

Other times bias can show up when analyzing the data - if some of the data are removed from the dataset before conclusions are made. It is always important to know who conducted the research you are studying to see if there may be any potential bias found in the report.

Question 14
14.

According to what we learned about laws, laws explain "what is happening, not why something is occuring."

A) First read the paragraph below

B) Then highlight, box, or circle the sentence(s) that shows that the presumed law of spontaneous generation does not explain how life came from non-life, thus not making it a law.

Question 16
16.

First read all three paragraphs. Then answer the questions A and B.

Question 12
12.

What does the story of "spontaneous generation" proposed by Aristotle and Redi's subsequent experiment teach us?
That a theory or law that has been around for 1,900 years can be proven wrong through correct experimentation.
Life comes from non-life all of the time. This is known as spontaneous generation and is an undeniable fact, which therefore makes it a law.
Microorganisms are small living creatures that can spontaneously come out of thin air.
That a theory can become a law
Read the following text and answer the question below:

How does bias show up in research?
A scientist makes sure all data is represented equally and that the experiment makes every attempt to include data that may verify and/or contradict the hypothesis.
A scienist removes some of the data from the data set before conclusions are made.
A scientists knows that experiment was conducted in such a way that it eliminates data that might contradict the conclusion
