We will work through the various stages of the different groups to look at how different groups responded to the Tsunami. Some images have been included to help prompt you. 

Before, during and after the Tsunami
When we talk about time- we can categorise it as:
Short term- Minutes/Hours/1-3 Days
Medium term: 4+Days/ Weeks
Long term: Months/Years

What term does "During the event" fall in?
Everyone acts personally during the immediate crisis. e.g. A matai(cheif) had his 3 grandchildren in the car driving and it was swept away. Only the chief managed to survive.

What time phase does the "The disaster rehabilitation period" fall in?
Rebuilding occurs after the $150million infrastructure damage and the economy starts to function again. Actions are taken to reduce the effects in the future e.g. Salaepaga rebuilt on higher ground to be safer

What term does "before" the tsunami fall in?
People may or may not know the tsunami is coming. In Samoa they were at home at 6.48am sleeping or getting ready for work and school.

What time frame does "The emergency response phase" fit in?
The first priority is to save lives. Often the military is used to help search for people.

What time frame does "The disaster recovery period" Fall in?
The urgent needs of the living are attended to. Mess is cleaned up. Aid is delivered (often from other countries e.g. NZ)
