Escape Room

Learning Objectives:
  • Calculate the molar mass of a compound.
  • Perform calculations using dimensional analysis to convert between grams, moles, and number of atoms or number of particles.
Directions:
  • Help! Ms. Woods is locked in the chem stock room and she needs to escape in order to teach AP Chemistry! The stock room is armed with an alarm and locked with a key to keep out students who want to eat and drink the chemicals. A spare key is stored in a locked box in the classroom, and you also need to know the security code to the alarm system. Your mission is to solve the chemistry problems below to figure out the codes needed to open each of the locked items and get Ms. Woods into her classroom!
Step 1 - Getting the security code

Ms. Woods has a receipt for some chemicals she purchased that will give you the five digit code to deactivate the alarm to the chem stock room.

HINTS:

Enter the five digit code for the stock room door.

Step 2 - Getting the lock box open

Congratulations! You deactivated to the alarm and are now ready to unlock the door. Now you need to figure out the code to lock box where Ms. Wood's spare key is kept. You notice a sticky note on lock box, but someone has spilled coffee on the note and some of the information is missing. Use your chemistry skills to fill in the missing information and decipher the code to the lock box.

Enter the four digit code for the lock box.

Step 3 - You tripped a silent alarm! Turn it off before DPS security shows up!

Oh no! When you opened the door, you tripped a silent alarm! If DPS security shows up, we'll lose all of our chemicals and will never get to do a lab again...AHHHH! You are so close to being able to have a successful year in AP Chemistry. Now you just need to figure out one final code to turn off the alarm system. You notice a concert ticket is taped next to the key pad, and you know the ticket contains all the information you need to shut off the last alarm system.
