Velocity is a measure of an object’s motion. Velocity describes the speed and direction of an object’s motion. To calculate velocity, divide the distance an object travels by the time it takes to travel that distance.

Acceleration defines how the velocity of an object changes over time.  It describes how an object’s speed and/or direction of speed changes.  There are 5 ways to change velocity, start moving, stop moving, speed up, slow down and change direction

Acceleration is an important measurement to consider when studying forces. When unbalanced forces act on an object, the objects motion changes. The change in motion is acceleration. In other words, when an unbalanced force is applied to an object, the object will accelerate or decelerate.
