Carefully read through the lesson on author's purpose and respond to questions specifically about your book.
What and why do author's write??
How do you know-- where can I find evidence??
If the purpose is to entertain then you'll find text evidence in the parts that evoke emotion! What made you laugh, cry, angry, or worried? What made you think or what ideas or characters did you make connections with?
If the purpose is to inform, what are you learning about? What are specific ideas that the author is trying to convey?
If the purpose is to persuade, what is the author's stance on the topic? How are they appealing to you-- through facts, statistics, emotion? How are they trying to convince you to see the topic how they see it-- or agree with it?
