La Befana is otherwise known as the Italian Santa Claus. She is an old lady, a good witch “una buona strega”. Who brings gifts to children on the night between the 5th and the 6th of January. Children who wait for her leave out a stocking for her to fill. She gets around by flying on a broomstick. La Befana brings the good children toys and little candies in their stockings. She brings the bad children coal.
